Abstract

The relationship between poverty and health care is a common subject of research and policy, often using different definitions of poverty and healthcare. Nigeria is popularly known as the Giant of Africa and the home of abundant oil deposits. However, the country is also popularly known for its widespread poverty, mass unemployment and rapid population growth. Widespread poverty, mass unemployment and rapid population in Nigeria are among the major factors negatively affecting the people's access to quality healthcare services. The study concludes that until Strategic poverty alleviation options are effectively exploited and implemented, the widespread poverty will continue to be exacerbated and the people's access to quality healthcare will continue to suffer.
